May 2015 O*NET Analyst Occupational Ratings: Linkage Revisit

This report summarizes work conducted in late 2014 and early 2015 to revisit linkages between the 52 abilities in the O*NET Content Model and a subset of physically-oriented GWA and WC statements. This effort was carried out in response to user feedback indicating that ratings on physical and psychomotor abilities for some occupations seemed to be different than would be expected intuitively. The updated linkage data provide the most current information for use by the analysts. This data will be in effect going forward beginning with the Analysis Cycle 16 data collection effort.

This report provides an update of the ability ratings procedures. These methods for Cycle 12 were modified to take into account occupations that have been previously rated in earlier cycles. New occupations, rated for the first time, used previously established procedures. Modified procedures were used for occupations being rated for a second time, so that previous ratings could be included in the rating process. These modified rating procedures will be used in the future, since the majority of occupations will have been rated at least one time.

March 2010 O*NET Analyst Occupational Skills Ratings: Procedures

The information that populates the O*NET database is collected from three primary sources: incumbents, occupational experts, and occupational analysts. Job Incumbents represent the source for much of the information in the O*NET database, including: occupational tasks, generalized work activities, knowledge, education and training, work styles, and work context areas. Abilities and skills data are produced by occupational analysts.

This paper provides a description of the analyst skills ratings procedure that includes the: skill rating process, development of stimulus material, analyst criteria and training, and rating analysis on the 35 skill constructs. The procedure mirrors those established for collecting ability ratings as described in O*NET Analyst Occupational Abilities Ratings: Procedures (Donsbach, Tsacoumis, Sager, & Updegraff, 2003).

April 2006 A Comparison of Incumbent and Analyst Ratings of O*NET Skills

This report describes a comparison study of skills ratings made by trained occupational analysts to skills ratings made by job incumbents. Ratings were compared across a large sample of O*NET-SOC occupations. Ratings were reviewed, including the psychometric quality. Results indicated that the ratings made by analysts were very similar to ratings made by incumbents. The methodology and results of the study are presented in this report.
