Summary:

The O*NET® Interest Profiler Tools are a family of vocational interest assessment tools used for career counseling, exploration, and planning purposes. These tools are designed to help customers learn valuable work-related information about themselves that can be used to focus their career and/or job search activities.

The purpose of this report is to describe how the career returns for the ONET Interest Profiler Short Form (Short Form) and ONET Mini Interest Profiler (Mini-IP) are generated. In both versions, the customer interest assessment profiles are linked to ONET-SOC occupational interest profiles. The ONET-SOC occupations deemed the most promising for career exploration are those with a score profile calculated to be most correspondent with the customer score profile. This report describes the statistical index used to determine profile correspondence: the correlation coefficient. The correlation provides a numerical index of the similarity of the shapes (but not the levels) of the customer and occupation profiles. Additional display criteria and options are also described.
